MORAY FIRM RECEIVES SPECIAL MENTION FROM PRINCE OF WALES

01 May 2007   A Moray firm which designed and built the first malt whisky distillery in England, recently visited the site as it was officially opened by The Prince of Wales.

Rothes headquartered design and manufacturing firm, Forsyths, received special mention from Prince Charles as he unveiled the plaque to formally open the St George’s Distillery in Norfolk at the end of last month (March).

The English Whisky Company – the first and only registered whisky distilling company operating in England – commissioned Forsyths to design and build its distillery in April 2006, with the fast track project completed in November last year.

The company made its first spirit in November 2006 and the distillery produced its first run in December. A visitor centre is to open later this year and it is hoped the first St George’s whisky will be available in around three years time.

Richard Forsyth, managing director of Forsyths, said: “We were delighted to be involved in the creation of the first whisky distillery south of the border. To receive special mention from Prince Charles only added to the prestige and we wish The English Whisky Company all the best for the future.”

Forsyths is currently working on a design and building contract for a second English whisky distillery as well as a large scale project on the west coast of Scotland for a major Scottish distiller.

Forsyths designs and manufactures products for blue chip, distillation, petrochemical, brewing and offshore oil and gas clients across the globe.

As well as its Rothes headquarters, the firm has two manufacturing facilities at Buckie. Grants (Dufftown) Ltd and Forblast Ltd are also both part of the Forsyth group of companies.
